Taking pictures is fun and is easier than ever with today’s modern cameras. For the camera enthusiast, pictures can go from great to professional with just a few easy tips. Try some of these tips and you’ll be taking pictures like a professional in no time.
1. First, be aware of everything that will be in the picture, not just your subject. You may be focused on your friends, but the person walking their dog behind you may be distracting in the final picture.
2. Is it light enough outside to read a book? If so, you really don’t need a flash. If your camera provides an option to turn off the flash, use natural lighting instead.
Taking pictures indoors? If it doesn’t seem light enough inside, you can put your subjects near the window on sunny days and use the fill flash. This will be less harsh than the regular flash.
3. Avoid aiming the camera straight at faces. Instead, aim the camera slightly down, a little to the side, or a three quarter view. This will reveal more of the face. A picture taken at an angle looking down with a three quarter view is slimming.
4. Don’t forget how useful the focus feature on your camera can be. It allows you to get closer to your subject. By filling more of the frame with the person you are taking a picture of, you are sure to capture your intended memory.
5. Remember not to place your subject in the dead center of your picture. The subject should be just off center. If you are taking a picture of a large group of people, just find the middle of the group. This is the focus that should be just off center.
Most of us will never actually win awards for our photos, but who needs awards when you’ve got all these great memories! Your loved ones will enjoy your masterpieces for years to come!
